Kant the Sublime Essay
The Sublime In Lyotardââ¬â¢s perusing Lessons on the Analytic of the Sublime, he clarifies how basic idea exists inside an unending measure of imagination without any standards however looking for them. Lyotard comprehends the Kantian heavenly as an approach to conform to the guidelines that fundamentally break down postmodernism utilizing deconstruction. Kant separated the eminent between the immeasurability and enormity and the dynamic brilliant. The limitlessness magnificent is so incredible we canââ¬â¢t simply utilize our faculties like we typically do; it expects us to increase our faculties inconceivable. The dynamic magnificent is the manner by which legitimizes things and his recognitions. Lyotard portrays the boundlessness of the creative mind and reason as a ââ¬Ëdifferendââ¬â¢ and this is ââ¬Ëto be found at the core of glorious inclination: at the experience of two absolutes similarly present to thought, unquestionably the entire when it imagines, the completely estimated when it presents. ââ¬â¢ (Lyotard) Our creative mind gets structures and measures while reason comprehends something without type of a vast nature of something. There is a detachment of creative mind and reason and when we utilize the ââ¬Ëenigmaticââ¬â¢ intensity of basic idea we can brilliantly pass judgment on something. Kantââ¬â¢s introduction of the grand has been taken up by Lyotard and he investigates various methods of finding a philosophical comprehension of various fine arts. Through Longinus and Burke we can investigate the pre-present day and current originations of the great and through every one of these evaluates we can draw various appearances of the glorious in workmanship. Kant addresses how might somebody judge an article before realizing how to appropriately decide that question and how would they know what legitimate judging is? Longinus in part of his study suggests that man can go past his restrictions as an individual by encountering feelings and language. The workmanship or specialized gifts was depicted, as the human while the brilliant was something that got away from our experience of craftsmanship. ââ¬ËSublimity comprises in a specific greatness and qualification in expressionââ¬â¢ (Longinus, pg 100). To comprehend and know about the radiant, there should be an obscure comprehension of something that is past our experience or faculties. He clarifies that there is a whole other world to the human customary life since we feel this through the faculties, however these faculties are an off base understanding brought about by a physical discernment rather than a mental one. On the off chance that you consider the heavenly, it can't be envisioned or envisioned however we have deciphered and recommended through human expressions and verse. Longinus discloses to us that nature is the inventive and the main standard of the glorious and what follows is an issue karma and great coaches. In Goodbye Lenin, a German movie coordinated by Wolfgang Becker, Lenin attempts to conceal the unification of Germany during the 1990ââ¬â¢s from his mom who was in a state of extreme lethargy consistently and needs to remain in bed. He effectively conned her into deduction nothing had changed by utilizing stunts like old item containers and recording his own news communicates. This film effectively executes the possibility of the brilliant in what was happening between his mom and the remainder of the world. ââ¬ËOur issues spring from a similar spot as our ideals. ââ¬â¢(Longinus)She thought everything around her was genuine and time had not changed yet the individuals around her were very much aware this was a duplicity of the real world. The manner by which Lenin made a similar world and reality his mom had consistently known is overpowering to the faculties and questions what is truly no doubt? Burke accepts that the thoughts of torment and delight can't be characterized, however joy of each sort fulfills rapidly. He proceeds to state that there are two sorts of delight: the principal that basically is and has no connection and the subsequent that can't exist without connection. The film has safeguarded and halted time that resists nature and as a general rule is impossible. The child is so frightened and scared that his mom will bite the dust that he attempts to satisfy her by keeping the world precisely the equivalent. This fear is the wellspring of heavenly on the grounds that it makes the most feeling and he envisions the most noticeably terrible. The dread that his mom will kick the bucket has made him be unnerved. It investigates various zones of the psyche by letting her accept this falsehood. His mom would not endure the way that all that she has trusted in had disintegrated while she was sleeping and that the world she once knew was out of nowhere an industrialist society that presently included Burger lord, Pepsi and Coca-Cola. Lenin would not like to obliterate his mom and cause another coronary episode so he needed to cause everything to show up, as it generally was wile the outside world was developing and extending at such a quickened rate. The kitsch setting of the average German 1989 condo loaded up with yellow blossomed backdrop and dull wood furniture carries serenity to his socialist mother. The film catches the idea of people and their solid social convictions and how it can influence the human mind. Burke accepts that dread is the wellspring of the grand and that torment is the more impressive than joy. Lyotard accepts that torment isn't the end point, there is the ââ¬Ëmovementââ¬â¢ of torment to ââ¬Ëpleasureââ¬â¢ In Joseph Turners Impressionistic canvas titled Slave Ship, he has made a seen of tremendousness that identifies with the Kantian eminent however in addition he has shown the utilization of shading and dynamic structure to make a feeling of awfulness. The brushstrokes give a characteristic look to the artwork and the apparently inadvertent brushstrokes make a sorted out structure. We are stylishly satisfied when we take a gander at the artistic creation in light of the fact that a staggering reaction is experienced when taking a gander at the image. Burke accepted that the Beautiful was totally different from the glorious. ââ¬Å"All privation is incredible on the grounds that they are on the whole horrendous: Vacuity, murkiness, isolation, and quietness. Low and irregular sounds and shadows realize sentiments of the superb. Most importantly, the activities of the psyche are influenced by the magnificent. ââ¬Å" The manner by which Turner has utilized unpleasant brush strokes and heaps of difference among dispositions and differentiating hues makes the Sublime rather than the Beautiful. The utilization of purple and blue shadows that cast over the foggy night, the bloodline horizon, the blazing incensed ocean and the unimportant boat make a feeling of frightfulness. The Sublime is knowledgeable about this painting since it is separated from the real peril of being in a genuine circumstance and somewhat experienced through the visual expressions and verse in its staggering limitlessness. There is a feeling of rapture and terrorizing when going through the canvas. Thomas Coleââ¬â¢s Landscape with Tree Trunks make a battle to have the option to comprehend what is being suggested. It gets uninviting to the watcher as the frightening tree trunks in the closer view hinder our way into the canvas and we get further into just for our view to be blocked again as a result of the mountains that come directly into the center part. The work of art doesn't oblige to human sentiments. These are radiant segments, for example, the unnerving trees, the differentiating light and dynamic sky make dissatisfaction in entering the composition cause us to feel that we are not invited and that we are in a wild that we can't control. The mind-boggling tree and sky makes and unexplained wonders as well as suggests that time and intensity of nature is immense and endless and these erratic powers can in themselves become superb. The canvas creation appears to have been misshaped by Cole yet it feels real and credible. In the Pianist coordinated by Roman Polanski we are sheltered to knowing the truth of the genuine condition of Jewish casualties caught in a death camp however we despite everything appreciate the terrible activities taken against them brought about by the mind-boggling intensity of human instinct. We are awed, nauseated and in dismay by the inquiry: ââ¬Å"How can individuals do such things? â⬠ââ¬ËThere is no clarification for the correspondence of energy, yet it is finished up through the experience or feelings of others. ââ¬â¢(Burke) it is extremely unlikely to defend how the Jews were treated during this season of anguish and we canââ¬â¢t even comprehend such occasions to reoccur, however it despite everything exists today. The agony and enduring that we experience as an observer is subconscious and in can't be legitimized. Inside the film Szpilman can isolate from the war and all the torment and enduring he has encountered by playing the piano. At the point when various men have a typical confidence in the object of deference we go to the Sublimeââ¬â¢ (Longinus). Szpilman makes his own great world through the piano. He makes an improvement of ground-breaking and propelled feeling and he is by all accounts honorable and raised when playing the piano, not l iable or embarrassed for being a Jew. His ability brings even his most exceedingly awful adversaries to regard him and be in totally awestruck by his music violating all limits of human laws and gauges and raising itself to an a lot higher spot that is all inclusive. The obscure and unbound is made in the film when everybody is awestruck and in absolute adoration of the music. At long last, craftsmanship has the inconceivability that permits the brain to be liberated from obstructions of interruption. Fundamentally, I comprehend Kant from his perspective of craftsmanship as a method of intends to letting the faculties experience an inclination far more noteworthy than the regular conventional life and sublimity just exists in our brains and not in nature, and in the event that we are aware of this we can get better than nature inside and to nature which does exists without us. Lyotard clarifies that workmanship should work without any guidelines and that it along these lines can't be judged and rather be consolidated and pluralized. Longinus clarifies that the human is the specialized part of craftsmanship while the eminent is the existential piece of the human mind that goes past our experience of workmanship. Hybridity Concepts In Postcolonial Studies
Hybridity Concepts In Postcolonial Studies The progression of data and the development of individuals in this ever advancing, interconnected and intuitive world have been a significant explanation in the making of new societies through blending of neighborhood and remote thoughts and qualities. This sort of blending is a small piece of the free and tricky significance of hybridity. The term hybridity is utilized in numerous zones, for example, crossover economy (the blend of private endeavors and government dynamic cooperation in worldwide economy) (Koizumi,2010); half and half vehicles, mixture language (creole and patois), and in particular comparable to this investigation is in the field of half breed societies (Tomlinson,1999; Coombs Brah,2000). Easthope (1998) battles that hybridity can have three implications; regarding science, ethnicity and culture. In organic science, half and half could mean the arrangement of hereditary segment in person, creatures or plants. In the second and third definitions, hybridity can be comprehended to mean a person who has at least two ethnic and social personalities. Anyway de Toro underlines that the importance of hybridity in present day social hypothesis has nothing to do with the organic and zoological starting point of the term (de Toro, 2004). Hutnyk (2005) then again uncovers that the term hybridity and syncretism appear to serve the inward social parts of imperialism and the worldwide market. A few key masterminds in the domain of hybridity incorporates among others Homi Bhabha, Robert Young, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, Stuart Hall and Paul Gilroy, who draw upon related ideas from Deleuze, Derrida, Marx, Fanon and Bakhtin to name a few.(Ref) specifically, Bhabha has built up his idea of hybridity from scholarly and social hypothesis to depict the development of culture and personality inside states of pioneer opposition and value (Meredith, 1998; Bhabha, 1994; Bhabha, 1996). In socio-social milieu, hybridity is utilized as an explicative term and hybridity turned into a helpful instrument in shaping a talk of racial blending which was viewed as a distortion toward the finish of eighteenth century. The sort of half and half during this time was to a great extent alluding to entomb marriage of high contrast and the posterity were recognized as the cross breed item. It has likewise been alluded to as a maltreatment term in pioneer talk for the individuals who are results of miscegenation or blended varieties. Papastergiadis in Werbner Modood (2000) then again states that the positive element of hybridity is that it constantly recognizes that character is built through an exchange of contrast and that the nearness of crevices, holes and logical inconsistencies isn't really an indication of disappointment. (ibid:258). In this manner hybridity can be seen in both negative and positive structures. Ashcroft, Griffiths and Tiffin (2006) state that hybridity happens in post-provincial social orders because of monetary and political extension and control and when the colonizer weakened indigenous people groups (the colonized) social practices and absorb them to another social form. They likewise further clarify that hybridity stretches out until after the time of government when examples of settlements from rustic to urban locale and from other majestic territories of impact, for example, Chinese and Indian workers coming in into the Malay Peninsula during the work serious period. Be that as it may, with the end government, with the ascending of movement and monetary advancement, the term hybridity has significantly been utilized in a wide range of measurements and is one of the most contested terms in postcolonial considers. It can take numerous structures including social, political and semantics. Note that hybridity can be deciphered in a wide range of records from a slight cross breed to the outrageous of culture conflict. In the postcolonial contemplates the term half breed ordinarily alludes to the formation of new trans-social structures inside the contact zone created by colonization (Ashcroft et al.,2003). One other element of this term is the half breed talk which is related with the rise of postcolonial talk and its investigate of social imperialism.(elaborate) Easthope (1998) then again states that in his conversations of hybridity, it has no fix definition aside from corresponding to non-hybridity: à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢ ¦that the restriction among contrast and total nearness should be relativised by presenting more than one idea of character, that a lucid, talking subject can't live in the holes between personalities. (p.347). Pieterse (2001:221) keeps up that New mixture structures are huge markers of significant changes that are occurring as an outcome of versatility, relocation and multiculturalism. Also, social diasporization (Hall, 1990) implies another type of way of life because of interculturality and diasporic relations (Anthias,2010). In any case, Anthias (ibid:620) hypothesizes that: In the event that mixture social personalities are presently the trademark characters of the advanced world, at that point battles over social authority and the hidden components that help it, become progressively unfilled signifiers; simply to consume the space of the cross breed establishes a liberator human condition. What's more, de Toro (1991,1996a) fights that hybridity is constantly natural to culture, personality and countries yet it is the object of reflections and meanings of various settings and furthermore applied in altogether different fields. Correspondingly, de Toro recommends that one needs to comprehend the idea of hybridity in a more extensive metacontext and needs to consider hybridity to be blending frameworks at the base of the mix of various models and procedures. The conversation of hybridity in this examination centers around the contemporary discussion about culture, ethnicity and character which supports de Toros model of hybridity as a social class. The fundamental contention of this investigation is the risky idea of dealing with the distinctions of social, ethnical and strict gatherings in Malaysias plural society in the journey for the development of shared Malaysian personality. The conversation of hybridity in the Malaysian setting in this investigation subsequently isn't tied in with finding a halfway to the arrangement of contrasts in societies and personality however to recognize a space where social, strict and ethnic distinction can be commended. In as much the contentions in the succeeding areas manage ethnicity, culture and religion, this investigation doesn't endeavor to elucidate an inside and out conversation of the social hypothesis idea. Be that as it may, social hypothesis will be looked into at a surface level. In the semantics setting, Bakhtin (1981) advances the thought of etymological hybridity. He, as per Young (1995) portrays the manner by which language, even inside a solitary sentence, can be multiplied voiced. Bakhtin insists that etymological hybridity blends two social dialects inside the constraints of a solitary articulation yet separated by different elements of those social expressions. Straightforwardly, it portrays the capacity to be all the while the equivalent however unique (ibid:20). Youthful further proposes that for Bakhtin, hybridity depicts the procedure of the authorial exposing of anothers discourse, through a language that is twofold emphasized and twofold styled. Bakhtin (1981) partitions his etymological hybridity into two; purposeful hybridity and oblivious or natural hybridity. The previous happens when a voice can ironise and expose the other inside a similar articulation. The natural hybridity , then again happens when two dialects intertwined: . the dialects change verifiably fundamentally by hybridization, by methods for a blending of different dialects existing together inside the limits of a solitary vernacular, a solitary national language, a solitary branch, a solitary gathering of various branches, in the recorded just as paleontological past of dialects. (Ibid:358). The language hybridity marvel is one of primary conversations in this present investigation as the multicultural society develops in Malaya then Malaysia separately, dialects advance couple. The conversation includes the development of Malaysian English or Manglish in social associations of the people inside ones own ethnic network or with different networks on the loose. This is contended in the conversations and discoveries part of this present examination. The area that follows talks about in more noteworthy detail of hybridity in the light of Bhabhas (1998) deal with social assorted variety and social distinction. Understanding Bhabhas idea of hybridity according to social assorted variety Bhabhas origination of hybridity is created from artistic and social hypothesis by which he distinguishes that the administering bodies (colonizer) decipher the personality of the colonized (the other) pair with the essentialist convictions. This activity of interpretation anyway doesn't create something that is known to the colonizer or the colonized yet basically new (Papastergiadis, 1997). Bhabha accepts that it is this new obscured limits or spaces in the middle of subject-position that are distinguished as the territory of the interruption and dislodging of dominating impact of pioneer stories and social structures and practice. Bhabha (1994) claims that the distinction in social practices inside various gatherings, anyway levelheaded an individual is, is in reality extremely troublesome and even unthinkable and counterproductive, to attempt to fit together various types of culture and to imagine that they can without much of a stretch coincide. As he asserts: The supposition that at some level all types of social decent variety might be comprehended based on a specific general idea, regardless of whether it be individual, class, or race, can be both perilous and exceptionally restricting in attempting to comprehend the manners by which social practices build their own frameworks of significance and social association (ibid:209) There is truth in a specific way to the announcement above as far as the comprehensiveness of social decent variety applied in numerous pluralistic nations including Malaysia. In any case, to a l

Invisible Man By Ralph Ellison - 1668 Words
Chris Shea ENG 398 Professor Aimee Pozorski 09/30/15 Not Exactly a Fun Ride Upon an initial surface reading of page 158 of Ralph Ellisonââ¬â¢s 1952 novel Invisible Man, one could be lead to believe that it was simply a crowded subway and Invisible Man was simply pressed up against a lady who does not take good care of herself. However, if one were to read this much more closely and actually figure out the context presented in this passage, one could see that Invisible Man is being held against his will by circumstances surrounding his race (African-American). Reading this passage in such a way, one would be able to understand how being packed next to someone who is unappealing could relate to racial or ethnic oppression. On page 158 of his novel Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison uses many descriptions of imagery, some in the form of similes and metaphors. The first part of this passage is as follows: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦I was crushed against a huge woman in black who shook her head and smiled while I stared with horror at a large mole that arose out of the oily whiteness of her skin like a black mountain sweeping out of a rainwet plain.â⬠(Ellison 158). On the surface, one would be led to believe that this is just Invisible Man describing an ugly woman whom he is next to on the subway (one such description could rile up a lot of feminists). Tragedy in Antigone by Sophocles and Blackfish - 771 Words
Karl Marx, the German philosopher, once said ââ¬Å"History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce.â⬠For me, this quote clearly describes the overarching relationship between Blackfish and Antigone. This analogy starts with Antigone, written about an oppressed woman against the fists of tyranny. That early in history womanââ¬â¢s rights was often taboo at places, and democracy was only recently established. Yet, Antigone went against the norm by focusing on a heroine that challenged male authority and nobility, thus making it revolutionary. Now, an unbelievably eye-opening documentary, Blackfish has been produced about a ââ¬Å"company-despotâ⬠that values money over life and recognition over morals. In this story, the life of a killer-whaleâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Blackfish, on the other hand, was created with the goal to change society in mind, and did this by pressing a recent, overlooked problem to the audience. As a documentary, it presented many graphic and touching scenes that were awfully traumatic. These powerful scenes struck nerves for many, as it was hard to take in, and have helped Blackfish garner national and international attention. Sadly, many people still donââ¬â¢t know what is happening behind the scenes, and are still being exploited because of this. I am thankful for Blackfish, as it will ensure that I wonââ¬â¢t ever be taken advantage of by SeaWorld. By using strong examples and imagery to prove a point against a nationally acclaimed and visited company, Blackfish has swayed me, alongside my heart, to choose it as more impacting. More important than historical backgrounds or impacts to society (for me), is how both stories impacted myself. Antigone started by opening my eyes to the calamities of Greek drama. It gave me crucial insights to the lives of the past people: the ever-lasting importance of religion from their eyes, and the fight for

Boulevard Broken Dreams Meaning Essay Example
Boulevard Broken Dreams Meaning Essay This analysis aims to show how Green Days lyrics have become more complex and sophisticated. I will focus on the use of poetic devices in these lyrics to demonstrate that although they are using fairly simple language, the writing is not as simple as it seems. Most of the verses use both end-rhyme and internal rhyme: Im walking down the line That divides me somewhere in my mind All of the verses use a lot of alliteration, for example: My shadows the only one that walks beside me My shallow hearts the only thing thats beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me This verse has the repetition of the sh in shadow and shallow (which also rhyme with each other); the th sound (5 times); and the s ( a total of 8 times in the verse). Assonance, where the same vowel sound is repeated, is also used, perhaps most strikingly in the first verse: I walk a lonely road The only one that I have ever known Dont know where it goes But its home to me and I walk alone This has a total of nine times when the o sound is repeated, giving it the feeling of an echo. The same effect of an echo is in the repeating of the words I walk alone throughout the song, at the end of every verse and as a kind of chorus. The sound of the letter l is repeated frequently through the song, which makes it seem more musical. While not exactly a lullaby, this song is slower and more acoustic musically than many of their others. Essay Sample on Surrealism in Photography
Essay Sample on Surrealism in Photography Photography enriches our lives in many ways. A creative photographer is one who selects and captures qualities in their subject that make the picture artistic rather than plain and common. Ways of making photographs creative and more interesting can be by using different techniques and art movements. Surrealism is a movement in art that attempts to express the subconscious mind. It is a style that shows strange objects and shapes like those in dreams and fantasies. During the period of 1928, the surrealist movement within photography was in what was known as its transition from an intuitive to a reasoning phase. Surrealism allows the viewer to enter a realm of dreams by conquest and normatively. Some take the history of photography to embody the political potential of surrealism in a variety of ways. They replace the notion of ââ¬Ëphotography as an artââ¬â¢ with the idea of ââ¬Ëart as photographyââ¬â¢. It allows a window and everlasting view of the surroundings. Surrealism hoped to accomplish similar achievements, but instead of the surroundings around people, it is the surroundings in their dreams and fantasies. It was a way of expressing what a person sees that others canââ¬â¢t. Photography could be seen in a special and interesting way, with the surrealists aimed at restoring the interest and quality to photos with an added magical concept to everyday objects and images. One great photographer who used the method of surrealism and was able to capture images that appeared to be from dreams and fantasies was Kevin Wilson. He has been doing photography for many years and states that ââ¬Å"all my photographic work is dream inspiredâ⬠. (Quote: The surrealist look at art). Like many other surrealists photographs, Wilson attempted to recreate the feelings, anxieties and emotions evoked through his dreams. Kevin worked with digital photography for many years and then begun experimenting with other methods such as pinhole cameras, solarisation, photogram, photomontage, glass negative and double exposure. Most of these techniques provide an unpredictable and hazy nature which is ideal for recreating dream settings. The pinhole camera is considered a very simple technique. There is no need for a lens just a light proof box with a pin hole opening that allows light to hit a sheet of film. There is a lack of control which means you can never be sure how the final image will look. This technique provides a dream like quality and the image taken can be difficult to comprehend. Another technique is solarisation, it is the result of shinning light onto a developing photograph in the darkroom. The effect is a selective reversal of highlights and shadows where parts of the image are positive while other parts are negative and this can leave a distinct line where the reversal has occurred. It can produce dramatic effects of light and dark. A photogram is created without a camera, it is made by placing an object directly onto or holding it above light sensitive paper in a darkroom and then exposing it to light. Photomontage consists of combining several photographs together for each print. It is an ideal method for unifying unrelated elements producing images that have a dream like quality. Glass negative is a photographic print that is made from a design drawn onto a glass negative. Usually a drawing is scratched onto a coated glass plate that was then contact-printed onto sensitised paper. Double exposure is a film negative that has two separate images in the same frame. The photographer takes one photo, then focuses on another object and takes a second photo without forwarding the film. These are just some of the different techniques that the surrealist photographers use to create the dream and fantasy like images. Kevin Wilson was a self-taught photographer, therefore everything he knows and knows about photography has come through a process of trial and error. This has given him the opportunity of having a great deal of freedom. Since he was unaware of the depth and knowledge involved with photography, when he received his first camera he basically made up his own ways to suit the subject matter. When following an art movement such as surrealism within photography it was a lot easier for him to just forget any of the rules involved with photography and follow whatever method was necessary. Wilson is using photography and surrealism as a way to explore his own emotions and dreams. The art movement of surrealism is quite a difficult one to follow. Though it does offer photographers, such as Kevin Wilson a way of exploring and sharing his emotions and dreams. Through his photography all these emotions, anxieties and fantasies are able to surface and he can show people what he is going through and the experiences he is experiencing. Though surrealism was a popular art movement many, many years ago, it is only recently been picked up by photographers and their digital imaging. It is a great way of express what you are feeling and thinking to the onlookers of the photographs.

Philosophy of Leadership Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words
Philosophy of Leadership - Essay Example Given the essentiality of a leader, there exists a thirst in groups and organizations that needs to be relieved. This thirst is the constant quest of groups and organizations to have what they deem to be the perfect one. There is this constant desire of groups to have the leader perfectly suited for them. It is always their desire to attain success which lies big in their elected leader. No organization or group will attain success without a competent leader that is leading the way for them. This constant search of organizations and groups in having a good competent leader leads us to question: What is then the essence of a competent leader This paper will try to answer such question and will try to unravel the essence of a true leader in the context of a leader's perspective and the personal leadership philosophy of the author. Without further ado, let us now begin our discussion beginning with a leader's perspective, then looking at the personal philosophy of the author and finally looking at the two perspectives in terms of commonality and try to extract the best way of describing the essence of a leader. The leader interviewed was a calm and humble leader. He was so accommodating that that the interviewer instantly felt ease in dealing with him. He described his leadership as a democratic, facilitative and directive leadership. His leadership style is democratic in a sense that he gives freedom to his members. Freedom is manifested in the fact the he encourages creative thinking from his members. His members are allowed to conceptualize ideas regarding the steps needed by the organization in taking the path towards success. He cited one example in marketing. He said that in selling their products, he does not only rely on his trainings and capability but also solicits methods and ideas from his members. His members are free to suggest action plans on how they will promote and sell their products. As a matter of fact, he requires each member to submit an action plan on marketing. He also emphasized that he promotes an atmosphere of free thinking. He does not give much pressure to his members. He believes that free thinking can promote a healthier environment for his members and will let them achieve better ends in their endeavor of achieving success. He gives tasks in a manner that his members enjoy doing it. But he also emphasized that freedom is limited to the extent that there is always discipline in his members. The freedom that he gives is not absolute because he always wants discipline to be bannered by his members. Too much freedom as he said will at times make a member undisciplined enough to ruin the organization's desire for success. He gave emphasis on discipline because he deemed it very vital to success. It is also in discipline that he sees the reason in achieving a timely goal. Discipline promotes efficiency that will enable the organization to achieve their goals in the estimated amount of time they put in achieving it. Efficiency is significant in order for the organization not to waste money and time in any goal that must be attained. His leadership style also banners a facilitative way. This means that because he is promoting a freedom of thinking in the organization, he does not always direct but most of the time facilitates. Being a

Mattel Confronts Its Marketing Challenges Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Mattel Confronts Its Marketing Challenges - Essay Example This research will try to explain how Mattel confronts its marketing challenges. In the adverts, the company should ensure that it clearly explains the company profile to the clients as well as the functionality of the new product. Furthermore, effective marketing will need the company to have a clearly defined market or consumers of that particular product. For instance, Mattel to producing company will be introducing a new toy on the market shortly. Among the products to be introduced in the market, include the board games toys and WWE toys. However, for this product to sell to its expectation, the company management has to ensure that it correctly markets the products to its esteemed clients across the world. However, for the new product to be active in the market, it will have to be sold at most affordable prices. Moreover, the products should be able to meet customer expectations in terms of quality and durability. The assumptions that can be expected with the introduction of the new product in the market are the constant demand of the product. The management of the company needs not to assume the annual demand and supply of board games toys as well as the WWE toys. It is because an increase in market boundary will mean that supply will need to be an increase. On the other hand, the manufacturing of the product should also be able to meet the demands of the customer at any particular time. In addition, the company should also not assume the availability of tough completion in the market from the companies producing the same products.

Lord of the Flies Essay Example for Free
Lord of the Flies Essay The definition of an allegory is a ââ¬Å"symbolic expression of meaning in storyâ⬠(world English Dictionary). In the novel, The Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, is about a group of young British boys who get stranded on an island and have to survive themselves with no help from the outside world. This novel can be viewed as an allegory in three different ways, first as a political allegory, next as a psychological allegory and finally as a religious allegory. The Lord of the Flies can first be viewed as a political allegory. This is in comparison to World War II. At this time the world was divided into parts, the free world and the Soviet Union. In this novel it is just like how the island divided into two groups, Jackââ¬â¢s group and Ralphââ¬â¢s group. After the Cold War, the world was in fear of a nuclear destruction of the world. In The Lord of the Flies the world is also in fear of total destruction. In conclusion this novel could be used to compare wars or political separation with the outside world beyond the island the young British boys on. Second, this novel is a psychological allegory. Different characters were used to represent the different parts of the human psyche. Jack is used to represent the id, Piggy the superego and Ralph is the ego. As the id, Jack works to create his natural instinct. While Piggy, representing the superego, tries to control Jacks impulsive behavior his control back fires. Throughout the story, Piggy tries to keep peace between Jack and Ralph. Lastly, The Lord of the Flies, can be viewed as a religious allegory representing the Garden of Eden. The island was a perfectly livable island. It had food, warm weather, and a source of water. The snake in the Garden that lures Adam and Eve to eat the apple is just like the beastie who tricks the other boys to do what they arenââ¬â¢t supposed to do. While Piggy, his death, and the parachutist represent the fall mankind. Plus, Simon is kind of like a Christ figure who sacrifices himself to save the others. In conclusion, the book The Lord of the Flies is jam-packed with allegories. Whether itââ¬â¢s a political, psychological or religious allegory, the novel has far too many of examples to name them all.

Is the System Awash? :: essays research papers fc
Is the System Awash? à à à à à Most Americans are unaware of the problems of the poor, it is hard to imagine the challenges of poverty, the daily fears of victimization or the frustration of not being able to provide for a child. These central ideas along with many others have plagued the United Statesââ¬â¢ economy for most of its history. What do we do with the poor? Who are they and what can we do to help them? Well the answer is a mix between individuality with a strong relativity to the central government. It is here that we find our argument and it is here that we find ourselves at bay with many sensitive subjects. I believe that it is the governmentââ¬â¢s responsibility to provide for the nation, but it is up to the individual whom is given to, to make a difference with what is given to them. With such problems as minimum wage, unemployment and little to no affordable housing it is hard for the poverty stricken individual to gain some if any ground at all in their quest to rise up out of the bonds of d estitution. There needs to be a ââ¬Å"battle planâ⬠if you will to attack this issue of poverty head on. It is here that my plan comes into effect. Many propose simply giving them some sort of aid in food or money and being done with it, what I propose is that you give a little and they take it much further than what was originally thought possible. It is not simply the act of supporting them for the rest of their lives, it is the act of providing a strong foundation for which they can build upon. An outstanding quote from a man by the name of William McDonough states (chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York), ââ¬Å"Issues of equity and social cohesion are issues that affect the very temperament of the country. We are forced to face the question of whether we will be able to go forward together as a unified society with a confident outlook or as a society of diverse economic groups suspicious of both the future and each other.â⬠(Collins, Leondar and Sklar 280) à à à à à In a broad view the general public knows not of the hardships that a part of the country goes through each day. I had the opportunity to go to college in Kentucky my first year of schooling.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Rights Essay
This brings me to the system theory. A system has interconnected parts that depend on each other to develop the mutual goal, which is a successful center. The interconnected parts are the environment, the processes, and the outcomes. Each component needs the support of the other to keep the common goal. According to Bloom the system theory is, ââ¬Å"A set of interrelated parts that is characterized by the interdependence of its parts and it differentiation from its environment, a complex network of social relationships, and its own unique culture. â⬠(Bloom, 2005, p. ) The environment is a place where input is implemented. When I think of a childcare center environment I think of children and how they develop. I think of the atmosphere, the setting, and the conditions that can spark the chil dââ¬â¢s analytical thinking abilities. But that is just the internal environment. The external environments consist of the parents, sponsoring agencies, local communities, legislative bo dies, and the professional communities / teachers. ââ¬Å"The external environment places constraints and demands on the center. â⬠(Bloom, 2005) The external environment is the input and processing stage. This is a collaboration of people and agencies that come up with strategies to support the development of the center. The centers that have sponsors have money and agencies that develop supportive programs such as art, literacy, and technology. Columbia College sponsors the center that I work for. The center used the money Columbia gave them to developed a program for the teachers to learn the importance of art and how a person can utilize art throughout the day. Parents, sponsoring agencies, local communities, legislative bodies, and the professional communities / teachers are big factors on the input and processing stage. Parents may demand that the students have more free play and outdoor play. The sponsoring agencies might require more outcome data. The local communities may ask the center to stop the students from writing on the ground with chalk. The Legislative bodies may require the students to take shorter naps for more gross motor activities. The professional communities may ask for better wages for their degrees. (Bloom, 2005, p. 6) After the inputs of complaints or suggestions the director needs to structure and process how to develop a plan of action. Getting feedback from the sources that asked for the changes is essential. After developing a plan of action the director can stand back and observe if the changes are working or not. This system allows the director to process the changes, implement the changes, and revise the changes if needed to prefect the change. The outcome process is very important because it could either sink or sail a center. If the changes in the program are not supported by staff, and parents this may become a problem that causes low enrollment, and staff turnovers. I am experiencing these problematic issues at the center I work for. Four years ago the center hired a new director. During the four years she has made lots of changes. She changed classroom teacher teams. She closed classrooms that were bringing in the students. She put teachers in infant classrooms when they did not want to work with babies. Recently she enforced closed campus lunch. No one can go out for lunch. You have to order your lunch or bring your lunch from home. She stated that it was mandated by the state. She gave all the teachers the head-start licensing standards that stated the teacher child ratio. It said nothing about our lunch hour. We also have low enrollment. Parents are complaining about teachersââ¬â¢ morale and the directorââ¬â¢s attitude. How you implement change can affect the outcome and cause staff and parents to be disgruntle. As Bloom stated, ââ¬Å"Problems can arise when directors and boards lack adequate data and bas decisions about outcomes on inference. â⬠(Bloom, 2005, p. 16) My director did not collaborate with her environment. She is an autocratic leader. She is a dictator. She does not give anyone an opportunity to be involved with the decision making process. As it stated in the article Leadership Styles, autocratic leaders are extremely controlling and paternalistic, where leaders have complete power over their staff. Staff and team members have little opportunities to make suggestions, even if these would be in the teamââ¬â¢s or the organizationââ¬â¢s best interest. (Tools) If my director managed the center in a People oriented/relation oriented approach I believe the center would not be I such a crisis. People oriented/relation oriented approach leaders are totally focused on organizing, supporting, and developing the people on their teams. They treat everyone on the team equally. Theyââ¬â¢re friendly and approachable. They pay attention to the welfare of everyone in the group, and they make themselves available whenever team members need help or advice. (Tools) Directors need to be mindful of how they lead. A director needs s to know how to coach, mentor and manage the staff. Dictating is not he way to lead. If my director collaborated with the staff, parents, and the community I believe the outcome would be different. Coaching and mentoring is not telling a person what to do.

Some of the tests are done to benefit human lives and other tests are done to determine side effects of a certain household or cosmetic products. There has been a group formed called the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) who has begun proposing that companies who are testing vertebrate animals should follow a system. This system would help to cause no more than momentary or slight pain to the animals (Virginia 1). ââ¬Å"Alternatives are procedures that follow ââ¬Ëthe three Rââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢: Refine existing test methods, Reduce animal usage, or Replace animals as test systemsâ⬠(Virginia 1). Other steps have been taken by companies to help reduce the usage of animals for testing purposes. In 1979, Revlon Cosmetics was one of the first large companies to fund research alternatives with a $750,0 00 contribution to Rockefeller University (Stevens). ââ¬Å"Several organizations such as the John Hopkins Center for the Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT), the International Foundation for Ethical Research, the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association followed suit and started their own programs to validate alternativesâ⬠Show MoreRelatedAnimal Testing678 Words à |à 3 Pages Animal testing is a controversial topic in todayââ¬â¢s society, much more than it was 100ââ¬â¢s of years ago.
